How do I make changes to benefit elections?

Maybe you got married. Or maybe you simply realized that you made a mistake last week when you completed your open enrollment elections.

BerniePortal allows you to change your elections in both of these and similar situations. Specifically, outside of your employer’s open enrollment you can make changes to your elections if:

  1. You have a qualifying event (such as getting married)
  2. It is within 30 days of your most recent benefit election effective date

If you find yourself in one of these situations, contact HR and they can “unlock” your account so that you can make the desired changes. Following are the steps to take once HR has done that:

Step 1: Log into BerniePortal. When you do, you’ll see the appropriate alert. Click on the blue button to proceed.

Step 2: You’ll be taken to the start of your guided enrollment, with all information already filled out from your original enrollment. Click here if you’d like to be guided through the enrollment steps. At the beginning, you’ll be asked for the reason for your qualifying event or what the mistake was.

Step 3: Click through the steps of the guided enrollment until you find the mistake that needs to be corrected and edit accordingly.
